7 Years Ago Today - Front Row Center - ReInvention Tour

This is the one and only photo I have ever taken of Madonna.

7 years ago today, I was front row center with my sister at opening night of Madonna's ReInvention Tour at the legendary Los Angeles (Inglewood) Great Western Forum. It was the first time I had ever been that close at a Madonna concert. When I say front row center, I mean it. Nobody in front of us and dead center. It was fabulous. Before the show started, we were so nervous. Then The Beast Within started and she came up for Vogue. It was out of this world. At one point we had been jumping with one hand in the air for so long it felt like we were transported back to the 1930's at some bizarre Nazi rally jumping for a Blonde Goddess. It was strange and surreal.

Madonna's so strong and agile. Vocally she was supreme. In person, she was beyond gorgeous. We came home and looked on the AP wires for the photos. My sister said, "that is not the woman we saw tonight" because it just didn't photograph the same. In person, she glowed. Always much more beautiful in person. It was a wonderful live experience that we will never forget.

Since we were on The Beast Within, this is beyond fab, as well. It's labeled X-STaTIC PRO=CeSS Video Installation #6. The real X-STaTIC PRO=CeSS installation initially ran from March 28 - May 3, 2003 at Deitch Projects in New York but then travelled to a few other places around the world. This footage was shot in 2004 for The ReInvention Tour book.

Madonna and Steven Klein's The Beast Within, is by far one of Madonna's best tour openings, if not the greatest tour opening of all-time. Merging an art exhibition with a rock stadium tour = brilliant. As my best friend Roy stated after the show, "It was like she was a star that had been dead for 100 years and she had come back to tell us something, there was a feeling of loss". I love that and couldn't have said it better myself. It was apocalyptic and insane and I believe that is why The ReInvention Tour has such a high ranking as fan favorite.

Deeper and Deeper - ReInvention Tour

One of the highlights from the ReInvention Tour for me was Deeper and Deeper. I was there opening night at The Forum. For the first time I was front row center, it was the closest I had ever been at that time, it was fantastic. Even more fantastic was Deeper and Deeper. Turning it from a disco number into a torch song was fab. One of my favorites.

I'm in Love With Love

When I'm in Love With Love leaked last year, it was said to be an American Life outtake but I've always placed it near the Reinvention Tour when she did I Love New York. Wherever or whenever it was done, I love it and I'm glad we got it. xo

This video, shot by Steven Klein, was used in the backdrop video for Vogue from The ReInvention Tour. It reminded me of one of my heroes - photographer Cindy Sherman - from the moment I saw it on opening night (May 24, 2004) at the Forum in Los Angeles. I didn't know where to look, at the screen or Madonna. Since I was front row, it wasn't a hard decision however, it was a battle! There was so much going on up on those screens and stage. This was edited with other extraordinary footage for the final backdrop used on tour. I really trip on this hallway piece. Fantastique.
