Cherish At Land

In 1944, dancer, photographer, poet, artist, daughter of psychiatrist, self promoter, and film maker Maya Deren (born Eleanora Derenkowsky) made her second film, At Land.  I believe the first minute of her 15 minute experimental surrealist film, about preserving ones self identity, influenced Madonna and Herb Ritts for Cherish.

The parallels between Maya and Madonna are interesting for the cerebral Madonna fan and it's not a far stretch to see why Madonna was attracted to this defiant spirit and her experimental work.

Narcissism, mirrors, choreography, self portraiture, movement, and identity are themes that not only run through At Land but in much of Maya's work.

Brazilian model Isabeli Fontana looked stylish at the March 2010 issue of Harper's Bazaar Russia. She pulled a chic-look by wearing fabulous pieces such as floral-print corset by Dolce & Gabanna, pink pencil dress and patterned sundresses.

Milan Fashion Week: Prada Fall 2010 Collection

Classic. That's the theme for Prada's Fall 2010 collection that was showcased on Milan Fashion Week. According to Miuccia Prada, she revised her nineties creations and came up with the Fall 2010 collection. Models paraded in the runway in classic dresses and 1960's beehives. Our favorite Victoria's Secret Angels like Alessandra Ambrosio, Miranda Kerr and Doutzen Kroes plus Victoria's Secret model Lara Stone were among the models who strutted down the runway.

Lady Gaga's Concert Costume by Giorgio Armani

Lady Gaga is indeed a fashion icon. In the past, we have seen her wearing quirky costumes and dresses that were all created by well-known fashion designers. For her Monster Ball concert tour, Lady Gaga will sing with Giorgio Armani's creations. The designer had already released a couple of sketches that features custom-made outfits for Lady Gaga.

The Witches Collection. La Bruja's First Spell - The Devil Skirt.

The Witches Collection. This final collaboration between Malcolm McLaren and Vivienne Westwood included Keith Haring. Westwood found 'a magical, esoteric sign language' in the work of the New York graffiti artist Keith Haring. Most importantly, Madonna wore the best piece. A few of the early fans all time favorite skirt, if not the only skirt - The Devil Skirt!

Evidently, Haring was fuck'd over by Westwood and in mid 1983, Stephen Sprouce approached Haring at his Fun Gallery Exhibit wanting to collaborate on more clothes. Feeling burned and taken advantage of by the Westwood experience, he declined Stephen's offer.

Here are some pics from the collection. Of course, we all knew of this collection via Madonna wearing that skirt in photo shoots with Eric Watson, Michael Putland and immortalized forever in Mary Lambert's and Madonna's Borderline 'film'.
