1983 - Everybody Live at The Roxy and the KA-KA Shirt!

Well, this is just everything - of course. I would have died for this footage growing up - and I want the whole thing!!! They played this footage on RAI television in Italy. I know for sure that she also sang Physical Attraction but I don't know about the other songs. This is right at the time she shot the Gary Heery pics for the Madonna/Madonna album. That hair is so freshly bleached, just the right length and it's the exact jewelry.

It's all about that bruja gypsy dance and outfit. .:And Betty's favorite flats!:. Who else can just throw on old pieces of trash, flash an old movie star face, move in that motion and blaze brilliant street style? Only Madonna. They all try too hard these days.

Also take notice of The Ultimate Fabulousness. I was always obsessed with her KA-KA shirt that we first saw in the devoted completely to Madonna magazine for A Certain Sacrifice in 1985. The picture was from the rehearsal footage that Stephen Jon Lewicki shot in 1979. And 5 years later she wore the KA-KA shirt in this performance!

She also wore the KA-KA shirt at the Peppermint Lounge performance in 1983.

Giovedi 2 Marzo 22:25 - Madonna and Pepsi - The Big Bang

The Italian Madonna Pepsi Teaser Commercial. I always loved how there was a commercial for the commercial. The American version of this was first shown on February 22, 1989 during the Grammy Awards revealing the forthcoming March 2 debut of Madonna's Pepsi commercial that would feature the new song from her new album, Like a Prayer.

The actual commercial was shown just once on March 2, 1989 during America's number one television program, The Cosby Show. It was simultaneously shown in 40 countries around the world to 250 million viewers. The first time in media history that a commercial had an around the world satellite premiere.

The following day on MTV, Madonna premiered her fabulous video for the song, Like a Prayer. The shyt hit the fan. Pepsi withheld further airings of the commercial which were to be edited down 30 second spots of the original. Madonna was also supposed to shoot a second commercial that would announce her upcoming tour with the Pepsi logo all up and through. Never happened.

Christian groups went berserk. Christian fundamentalist, Reverend Donald Wildmon was so appalled with Madonna's video that he threatened to have his American Family Association 380,000 subscribers boycott Pepsi. Then Catholic Bishop, Rene Gracido also called Madonna's video offensive and threatened to not only going after Pepsi but it's other multi-million dollar fast food restaurants, as well. To top it all off, the Pope and the Vatican released a statement damning Madonna. Pepsi bowed out. We never got the second commercial and Madonna said, Eat It!!! - (not an actual quote) - and kept the 5 million bucks.

Trivia: On March 3, 2010 - 21 years to the day Like a Prayer premiered on MTV, Rev. Donald Wildmon stepped down from the American Family Association.

Thanks to the wonderful Club78boy who shared this rare Australian News Report of Madonna on her airplane and rehearsing some of Causing a Commotion in Torino, Italy for the Who's That Girl Tour in 1987.

September 4, 1987 - Torino, Italy - Madonna in Concerto

23 years ago on September 4th, Madonna performed in Torino, Italy. The concert performed at the Communale Stadium was a monumental television event. It was broadcast live on TV in Italy, France, Germany, Spain and Austria. In Italy alone, the broadcast was watched by an estimated 14 million households. The Who's That Girl Tour ended 2 days later in Florence, Italy on September 6th.

While in Italy, Madonna - with brother Christopher - met with extended family from Pacentro. Here's a clip of the pre-concert broadcast where RAI television spoke with Madonna's extended family and designer Giorgio Armani.
